Design Studio 2 Patio House

Professor Ramses Terrero

Coordinator Nik Nedev

Florida International University SOA Spring 2021

Students were asked to design and develop a patio house on a sloped 75’x125’ site in Miami for a an artist. They had to study and analyze the work of the artist. What is the artist’s method – are they restricting themselves through specific rules? How are the pieces made – painted, dripped, poured, stacked, welded, fastened, attached? Are the artworks flat, thick, layered, deep, reflective? How are they exhibited – on the wall, on the floor, on the ceiling?

Courtyard House Lot

As students start to interpret and actively search for ideas to generate concepts for their architectural form, they were asked to challenge their preconceived notions of how one lives – eats, sleeps, works, entertains, etc.
